The AK-15 is a Russian variant of the AK-12 that was publicly revealed in 2016. The new weapon is mainly aimed at elite special forces units of the Russian military and law enforcement forces, as well as possible export customers.
When compared to the AK-12, they are exactly alike, except that the AK-15 is chambered in the 7.62×39mm cartridge, where the AK-12 possesses the 5.45×39mm cartridge. The 7.62×39mm, an older cartridge, is the main reason why the AK-12 continued to be a much more used product than the AK-15
The AK-15 was a 7.62x39mm variant of the AK12 assault rifle, possessing a greater base damage and Rate of Fire (RoF). It possessed a somewhat effective hipfire stability, making a decent defense weapon. However, due to the stronger caliber, the AK-15 suffered from a much higher recoil than the AK12. To add on to that, the AK-15 had a greater damage dropoff, reducing its usage at long range.
The AK-15 was available to use in the CTE only, and was unlocked by default, as was any other weapon there. When the CTE was shut down, the AK-15 went down with it, and is no longer available to use.
Usage & Tactics
The AK-15 played much like the current version of the AK12BR, with excellent accuracy at distance, only tempered by its heavy recoil. Its playstyle was almost exactly that of the SCAR-H at the time, being perfectly capable of both close-range and long-range combat.
The AK-15 played much like a SCAR-H, mixed in with much heavier recoil. It was essentially a workhorse rifle, capable of performing at any range without too much trouble.
- The AK12BR drew most of its stats from the AK-15 when it was first released.
- While it does have the appropriate 7.62×39mm magazine, the weapon in Phantom Forces isn't a true "AK-15"; this designation applies to the updated 7.62×39mm AK12 from 2016 onward. The rifle in-game is modeled after the 2012 prototype of the AK12, which doesn’t have a designation for the different calibers.
