The AR-15/50 is a modified Battle Rifle variant of the original AR-15 exclusive to the Phantom Forces Community Testing Environment (CTE). It was unlocked by default.

History

The AR-15/50 is a modified AR-15 originally by Alexander Arms that fires the .50 Beowulf cartridge. This is a more powerful calibre than the regular 5.56x45mm NATO round the AR-15 typically fires. The round was designed to produce more stopping power at short to medium ranges but has lower velocity than the 5.56x45mm NATO round.

The cartridge has a rebated rim, sized to match the rim of the 7.62x39mm and 6.5mm Grendel rounds. It's adaptability is limited due to its use of the 7.62x39mm bolt face. The case body of the .50 Beowulf is very similar in dimensions to the .500 S&W Magnum revolver cartridge, being slightly longer and fully tapered for automatic feeding in the weapon.

Its ballistics are roughly equivalent to those of early .45-70 Government rounds. Travelling through windscreen glass or standard vehicle body panels will not greatly change the bullet's trajectory, which makes it suited to urban environments.

The .50 Beowulf is also gaining recognition as a sporting cartridge. It is now more recognized for being usable for hunting in North America, against deer, bear and other large animals.

In-game

General Information

The AR-15/50 is an assault rifle with a lot of punch, but not a lot of staying power. High vertical recoil and a low velocity makes the weapon difficult to contend with.

Usage & Tactics

Much like its spiritual successor, the Beowulf ECR, the AR-15/50 was very much a hit-and-run weapon with some DMR potential. In fact, much of the ECR's tactics apply to the AR-15/50.

Conclusion

High damage and a small capacity means that a player needs to run-and-gun with this weapon, and pick their targets - the tiny magazine will leave them high and dry in an extended engagement.
