A modernized AK74 rifle with a carbine barrel. Slow firerate with high close-range damage and moderate muzzle velocity.
–In-game description

The AK105 is a Russian Carbine available in Phantom Forces. It is unlocked at rank 105 or could be purchased using credits.

History[]

The AK-105 is a derivative of the AK-74M, which in itself is a modernized variant of the AK74. It is a part of the AK-100 series, utilizing polymer components instead of the older wooden furniture, as well more updated manufacturing methods.

The AK-105 like the AK-74M, is chambered in the 5.45x39mm intermediate cartridge. It is 824mm in length—longer than the AKS-74U but shorter than a full-sized AK rifle. The weapon entered limited service in 2001 with Russian military and is used by some units of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and other law enforcement agencies. The weapon is set to supplant the AKS-74U in service.

In-Game[]

General Information[]

The AK105 is a high-damage carbine, with a three-shot kill (3SK) up close or a 2SK with headshots. At range, however, the AK105 performs mediocrely, being a 5SK without any headshots.

Rate of fire (RoF) is low for its class, at 600 RPM. However, due to the high damage up close, its minimum time to kill (TTK) still remains quite good, at 0.1 seconds. However, it requires two headshots to achieve this TTK.

Magazine capacity is average, at 30+1 rounds. Reload time is quite short, taking 2.3 seconds for a tactical reload and 3.1 seconds for an empty reload.

Recoil is quite high, being similar to the AK103, although with less horizontal kick.

Penetration abilities are poor, compared to other Kalashnikov rifles like the AK103, at 1.0 studs.

Usage and Tactics[]

One should use the AK105 in a more aggressive role, playing up close with faster-paced and in confined areas. It does not perform well at range, given its higher recoil and worse range, but its high damage up close and fairly quick reload times makes it ideally suited for close-quarters-combat (CQC).

The weapon is not well suited to spraying through cover, due to its low penetration. Given its high recoil, a Muzzle Brake can help reduce the vertical recoil. Due to its high muzzle flash, if one can learn to control the recoil on the AK105, a Flash Hider is recommended.

The AK105, alongside the AK103, has access to a 5.56 NATO conversion. This replaces the standard 30-round magazine with a modified 35-round magazine, reduces aiming recoil, improves recoil recovery speed, and improves minimum damage and minimum damage range, but has worse hipfire stability and a slightly shorter maximum damage range.

The conversion increases the minimum damage from 20 to 24, making the AK105 noticeably better at long range. The biggest downside with using the 5.56 conversion is that the maximum damage is reduced from 36 to 32, requiring another shot at short range to kill.

The AK105 also has access to the BARS Barrel. The BARS Barrel completely changes the AK105, turning it into an assault rifle, increasing the firerate to 850, renaming the gun to AK107, and increasing the damage range. However, it reduces the maximum damage to 33, making the weapon a 4 shot kill at short range. However, the kill requirement is at a very high 5505, and the downwards recoil mixed in with horizontal recoil may be difficult for many to control. The AK105 also has a high ammo consumption rate, which may be a problem for trigger happy users or new users to the gun. With good trigger discipline and practice, the AK105 shines in its ability to quickly cut down anyone in its way. Given the slight firerate increasing quirk of Squad Barrel on the AK105, one can also opt for this attachment as a lower kill alternative and enjoy the benefits of a long barrel as well. However, this does come at the cost of a lower headshot multiplier and removal of the 105's torso multiplier.

Conclusion[]

The AK105 is a hybrid between the AK103 and the AK74. It sports the high close-range damage of the former, its recoil, and the cartridge of the latter.

Pros and Cons[]

Pros:

  • Fast tactical reload.
  • High maximum damage—2SK with headshots up to 40 studs.
  • Controllable recoil.
  • Above average velocity for it's class.
  • Clear iron sights.
  • Low ammunition consumption rate.
  • Access to exclusive BARS Barrel and 5.56 NATO conversion.
  • Squad Barrel slightly elevates the firerate in addition to providing long barrel benefits.

Cons:

  • Bright muzzle flash.
  • Very low RoF for an automatic carbine.
  • Short effective range and very fast damage drop.
  • Usually beaten out by faster-firing weapons at close range.

Trivia[]

  • Like the AK103, the AK105 incorrectly has a railed dust cover. The top cover should be smooth, like the in-game depiction of the AK74.
  • The AK-105 equipped with the BARS barrel becomes the AK-107.
    • The AK-103 also Features this, but instead, it becomes the AK-109.
  • The AK-100 series has its own 5.56x45mm rifle, called the AK-102. Equipping the 5.56 Conversion will not change the name to this, however.
  • In addition to this if one equips the 5.56x45mm attachment with the BARS barrel, the real life equivalent is the AK-108 but the gun is still called the AK-107.
  • If the Long barrel is equipped then the real life equivalent is the AK-74M, albeit for the AK-74M's standards it would just be a standard length barrel instead.
  • If the Long barrel and the 5.56mm conversion are equipped the the real life equivalent is the AK-101.
