Hey guys, I'm now a rank 99 (as of the time I am typing this) and I sometimes realise that some new players (around rank 10 or below) have a hell of a time trying to play due to the presence of many professional players that played since the alpha and beta.
I have therefore decided to make this forum as a help to new players on Phantom Forces by allowing experienced players post their tips and tricks within the game
For the new players reading this: Good luck!
Edit: As of May 30, 2019, I al officially rank 102
The most important tip that I always say is Map knowledge. It's knowing the rough spawn points on the map, your team and other's spawn and what I like to call "neutral" spawn points
"Neutral" spawn points is/are the spawn point(s) of either team when their main spawn point is overrun by the other team. Knowing this may be useful especially if you are a sniper main
Other than spawn points, hidden passage ways like those found in Desert Storm can provide an adventage if you are sneaking behind enemy lines
Sure that knowing them can prove helpful when trying to flank or snipe the enemy (which I am guilty of doing 99% of the time)
But other than the physical map itself you also need to learn the behaviour of other players, from there you can tell all of the commonly used passage ways or corridors, which you can avoid using to prevent detection
Glitches may also help you around the map, but to a certain extent and can be prevented as simple as a well placed grenade
Adding to the guide, (I'm Rank 8), it's best to try out different weapons for different maps, eg. Intervention for Mirage, UMP45 or MP5k for Ruins... Also, don't afraid to be slightly argressive sometimes, like penetrating deep into enemy lines, but don't become too agressive or you just get trapped or instantly killed. These strategies are quite effective most of the times.
I'm rank 105, currently. My top tips are, in all seriousness:
- Main with your current favourite gun. For low rank players, I'm thinking the SCAR-L is a very easy one to use. I'd personally recommend the MP5K for rank 0 players.
- Don't rush into fights. If you're inexperienced, play with your team. Fighting groups of people on your own will smash into your KDR pretty hard if you don't know what you're doing. That applies for everyone, really. If you're going into a fight with multiple people, use a gun you know how to use.
- TEST OUT EVERY NEW GUN YOU GET UNTIL YOU GET 10 KILLS WITH IT (Yes, even the ZIP). This will help you get the measure of your guns, and with the last point I made about finding your favourite gun to main.
- If the gun you're maining is considered "cancer" by the majority of the PF playerbase, then ignore all the rules above and never use it. In this category include: BFG 50 (especially with Ballistics Tracker), SFG 50 (same there), SCAR HAMR, M60 and VECTOR (unless you're rank 100 and you like to kek).
- Most of all, just try and find your own style. As you rank up, you'll grab hold of more ropes. Find your own way, loosely following the above tips. Good luck to you all, you'll need it for the hours and hours of relentless grinding you're going to have on your hands. You're going to get very familiar with staring down the barrel of a gun pretty soon.
Hello, I'm now rank 23 I think, and Mk11 is way too underated, it's my go to weapon along with my Scar-L and sometimes my MG 36 (which I bought with credits), just get a good sight, a ballistics tracker and a grip on your Mk 11 and you're good to go. Go get em!
learn how to use the tunnels on Desert Storm. Makes flanking, FD, and CTF (if you're somehow forced to play that gamemode) much, much easier. You'll also almost never see enemies in the tunnels since 80 percent of people don't know they exist
That's why I use it. Because I can compensate, some rank 12 sees me at the top of the leaderboard with 53 kills and thinks that it's good, then they waste 2800 credits on that thing instead of buying a TRG-42 or something.
I'd say the AWS has a high skill floor and not a high skill cap. But yes it defintiely isn't worth it for 10 rounds, especially with the AWP conversion in the testing place which gives the AWM 10 rounds.
Yeah... If another sniper notices me while I'm sniping it is almost certainly because they are dead. I'm that guys who hides at the far back edge of the map when sniping, which makes me really hard to find.
Worst map in the game, tied with Locker. I leave the server every time that is the map. It's garbage because snipers are the only viable weapons on it, and whilst low ranks may think that's good, that is just simply garbage map design.
Mirage is basically "spawn-kill or be spawnkilled". It's the least balanced map out there. You literally can't use anything outside of Battle Rifles, DMRs, and Sniper Rifles. Locker also sucks because what in the world is the terrain? It's like Luck in TD just bigger.
Most of my kills are on LMG's because 1. they give XP for supression, 2. they have good stats, Using a LMG does not make you a bad player. If you are using an LMG and can't hit anything beyond 100 studs, the issue is the player, not the gun.
LMGs are controversial, although personally I don't have the biggest issue with them. The only reason why I wouldn't like someone using an LMG is because they can't hit their shots so they're just spraying hoping to kill someone.
I've bought about 10 or so guns. Mostly because I didn't want to wait the extra 2 ranks or so. The highest rank weapon I have right now is probably the mosin. I bought that one just to train myself to look for headshots.
Im mostly really good or at 4th place. I only do poopy if i'm distracted (I really need to start turning off chat lol), or if it's a map I don't like (Mirage, luck sometimes, elevation sometimes, locker, you get the idea).
@ Romie 777, for me, rank doesn't exactly determine how good you are. It only determines how much experiance you have with the game. There are fast learners who can have a 3 KD at rank 25, and then there's rank 100+s with a 1 KD because they have really bad habits.
Yeah. I'd say the only one on this list that I do is not getting familiar with maps. I don't know the layout of Luck and I only know like 60% of Mall and Elevation. Also I think sticking with crowds shouldn't be on here because it's practically impossible for that kind of coordination to happen on a regular public server. Everybody goes lone wolf but they get together once for a big push is how I describe most players.
I definely, definely don't know why people don't use the 93R. Tec-9 dismantles enemies? Absolutely, but so fking does the 93R. Fast af, high damage af, has an ok (?) accuracy and you still have 15, 7 ammo sparing on your clip.
I always thought Uzi was better. Faster reload, much higher ammo reserve, still maintaining 2SK up close, and a 4SK at longer ranges if headshot. And the Extended Stock attachment greatly reduces recoil. And the VCOG bug on the Uzi makes it very powerful at long range if you aim for the head.
Rank 104 here, and I need to sound something that may or may not have been sounded already, but I think is extremely important for new players: Higher ranking gun DOES NOT MEAN it is better. Don't waste money on a high rank gun (example being a rank 35 buying a M107 or Hecate II) just because it's high rank and you see a lot of people using it.
A TON of guns which are absurdly powerful are actually below rank 50- with the rank that I am, im still using a rank 25 gun- the G36, a gun thats *4 times my level* and i have 4000+ kills with it!
Try out guns, sticking to the crowd does not mean that specific weapon will suit you in the long run. Amazing guns to start with are the Ak12 variants- low recoil, moderate damage. The only thing you need to fix are the sights, the irons are stupidly bad; the M4A1, excellent gun; the MP7, very good gun as a rank 9(?) unlock.
If you're looking for a good pistol, stick with the M9 or M1911- once you'll rank up more you'll have access to the M45A1, a slightly less powerful variant of the m1911 with more ammo, and if you want high penetration-high fire rate, try the Five-seveN once you unlock it. It is not worth buying. Personally, the M45A1 lasts a lifetime and is a rank 30-something unlock, compared to the Five-seveN, which is coincidentially rank 57.
TL;DR- Don't buy guns until you're at least rank 50. There are so many op low rank guns that you probably dont know about. The AK-12, the Intervention, the MP7, all incredible guns, and all are low rank unlocks.
a lot of low ranks dont realize that they already have guns made of literal gold.
ive seen so many rank 135+ use guns that are rank 50 and under, its incredible.
(most notably g36, m4a1 and intervention)
When i first got the G36, i shredded through so many people; i made an entire lobby leave cuz of my gun; all of my friends told me to stop using it cuz it was terrifyingly op.
when i got onto the official discord, i went to a rank 200-something and asked them to review my current loadout. they gave me an even better loadout than what i had, and i kept on shredding. i ranked up absurdly easily- all of my friends are like under rank 60.
it does have high bullet drop. i'd recommend using the PK-A: its a good sight, and just good ol' practice.
It's incredible once you get the hang of it. Just aim a couple ticks above their head if ur using PM II at 200+ studs, and i think u'll be good.
havent used the rifle in a while, heh; dont really like it, personally
the Intervention is decently fast when compared to the Hecate II and M107
the M107 is the gun that has the penetration power of a (.50 cal = 12.7x99mm) 155mm artillery shell. the Intervention is a more sensible sniper rifle, the RPM doesn't matter unless we're talking about close quarters engagements here... the M107 isn't even a sniper rifle anyways... plus a straight-pull bolt on your M200 Intervention won't be too much of an issue after you buy the M107, eh?
jfc i didnt expect to get blasted. when i said "firepower", i was referring to the calibre, not the walking speed, and ofc the intervention would be more useful in a variety of situations, cuz one of em shoots actual bullets and the other basically shoots artillery.
also, the G17 has more recoil than the M9 if i recall... the M9 also has higher max damage...
use the M9 until you get the M1911, then once you get the 93R and M45A1, use those. with .45 ACP guns i always use the M45A1 so i can put down my secondary for ammo
Lux Aurea's tips are definitely more accurate, if you will. the AK-12 is good, but the irons are quite the challenge to use. if you want to delete people, put it on the 1,000 RPM burst mode. the M4A1 is indeed quite good and i highly recommend it. low recoil, decent iron sights, good RoF, decent damage, etc. the M4A1 is just a good gun. the G17 sucks and i would not recommend it as it has lower max damage than the M9 does and feels like it has higher recoil. i'd say that the ZIP 22 is better than the G17, the low recoil allows for greater accuracy. (ZIP has 3 head shot kill)
I know you meant pistols do you think that i am not intelligent enough to comprehend the fact that you were meant pistols for your information i have a harvard degree in firearms and shooting my fingers off so i know what im doing ok i know that a DMR is not a pistol
well, m45a1 is good as a *pistol*, specifically; to deal relatively high raw damage, relatively quick reload and fast movement speed. The deagles (L5 & XIX) are more of a pocket dmr than anything; they deal absurd amounts of damage, but super high recoil. it's good for a gun like mosin, i main mosin + XIX cuz if i hit a single shot with the mosin in a range under 70 studs, i can whip out my deagle and kill them very quickly.
well, executioner is like rank 112 but deagle 19 is rank 102. it's 10 ranks lower, which is why i use it with my mosin. if the enemy is close, i can hit a single shot with the mosin and since the first stable (full ads + little movement) shot with the deagle is almost always 100% accuracy, i can easily drop ki- i mean pick them off quickly.
Pistols are the best secondary. They’re versatile, and work in almost all situations if you use them like you’re supposed to.
Melees? Don’t rush at enemies and get shot down. Sneak up on them from above, behind or something. Get close to them, forcing them to cover with your gun, then when they’re close, press F to pay respects.
Pistols are great but not the best. On luck the Serbu and 12U are good, also on KOTH maps where people will rush the hill a machine pistol like the 93R is good, and using a machine pistol while camping/hunkering down as a sniper can help when someone tries to rush you (or you can just evade the crime scene).
If you have good aim then the Micro uzis are OK and the alt aim mode looks pretty cool but other than that they are pretty trash. It's weird how strong they are in Arsenal (seriously, 50/100 mag size? And double wielding, combined with good looks?).
No, the M9 actually sucks. Unless you want to put a sniper scope on it and start hitting medium range shots, it is THE worst secondary, along with the Zip 22. But at least the Zip actually looks good with a sniper scope AND has the Pro Mag which converts it to full auto.
This is what I hate about people who have no idea how history works - they think it's just some kind of la la land and everything was always great and the internet was invented because of Jesus, when in reality it's very gory and sad.
yeah. Canadians were actually super brutal in WW2. When they were fighting back, Canada had a strict "take no prisoners" policy, as one soldier (maybe general) said "They kill our men, and terrorize Europe, and still have the nerve to beg for mercy? The only mercy they'll get is a bullet between the eyes." (this is about Germany). also, on Christmas, when they "declared" a truce with Germany, they instead faked it and gunned down the entire area under the assumption that they were friendly for that period, and caught the germans by surprise.
War changes Canadians, man. If we wanted to, we could literally gouge out your eyes and show no remorse.
a lot of people think that Canada is some kind of safehaven, and there's nothing bad happening. In reality, less than a month ago, a guy with a revoked driving license crashed into and killed an entire family; 3 kids and a mom. It's a brutal world, even in the nicest places.
