The Trench Knife is a Historical One-Hand, Bladed melee available in Phantom Forces. It is unlocked by default.
History[]
Trench knives were originally issued during the early 20th century as a backup in confined areas. They were commonly used in trenches, as their confined quarters made it difficult to effectively wield a standard issue bolt-action rifle, or during trench raids, as their inherent advantage over rifles was their ability to take down an adversary silently. They came in many forms, like Bowie knives and push daggers, and some Germans even used barbed wire stakes in place of a knife.
The in-game model is an American Mark I trench knife with a knuckle duster handle. The American trench knife was more of a brutish weapon, with its brass knuckle handle and "skull crusher" pommel, the knife was built for the trenches - but sadly was not completed before the end of WWI. During WWII, the Mark I found its way into the hands of Rangers and Marines, even if it was a rather oversized and unwieldy design. In 1943, the M3 trench knife was adopted to replace the Mark I, solving the Mark I's problems with size, handling, and cost.
